Victor Victoria: The Broadway Musical is a musical comedy, directed by Blake Edwards. It follows Victoria Grant (Julie Andrews), an unsuccessful singer fired from every performance she lands. Penniless, she goes to a local hotel and offers to sleep with the manager for some food and a place to stay before passing out from hunger. Later, she meets Toddy (Robert Preston), a gay man who works at one of the nightclubs Victoria was recently booted from. He's just broken up with his boyfriend (Malcolm Jamieson) who, as it turns out, was straight and only pretended to be gay so he could get singing numbers at Toddy's club. The ex comes back and insults Toddy until Victoria is forced to step in. She impersonates a man and beats him up. Toddy's ex runs off and Toddy hatches a brilliant plan: Victoria will pretend to be a man and audition at a local gay club as a female impersonator.
