Villa Rides is a 1968 American Western film directed by Buzz Kulik and starring Yul Brynner, Robert Mitchum, and Maria Grazia Buccella. The film tells the story of Lee Arnold (Mitchum), a Texan smuggling guns into Mexico. Arnold witnesses Pancho Villa and his men attack a village and is in turn arrested and sentenced to death. To save his life he arranges for him to do missions for the revolutionaries. On his first mission, Arnold saves Pancho Villa's life despite almost being sent to his death by Huerta, who is vying with Villa for power. Arnold then flees to Texas but is found by Villa and is again persuaded to join the revolutionaries. Huerta has since assassinated the Mexican president and seized power in the government, only encouraging Pancho Villa and his men even further. Originally written by Sam Peckinpah, the film underwent multiple rewrites by Robert Towne to soften the depiction of Pancho Villa.
