Virgin Territory is a romantic comedy film directed by David Leland based on Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron that is centered on a young group of ten Florentines taking refuge in Tuscany during the Black Death. Unlike the original where the group tells stories to pass the time, they find themselves involved with rather bawdy adventures and romance. While everyone of the group has their own little tale, Pampinea (Mischa Barton) finds herself escaping to the nunnery in order to prevent a marriage arranged by her father to the older Count Dzerzhinsky (Matthew Rhys). There, she meets the handsome and charming Lorenzo (Hayden Christensen) and falls in love with him. It is not quite a romance as expected as the slimy Gerbino (Tim Roth) convinces Pampinea that her father truly wanted her to marry him while Count Dzerzhinsky is determined to marry Pampinea, despite thinking she was his love Elissa (Kate Groombridge). A quirky retelling of an Italian classic as well as the American comedy American Pie, Virgin Territory is made for laughs and swordplay.moreless
