2003
Rating:

Virgin is a drama that follows the life of an adolescent girl named Jessi Reynolds (Elizabeth Moss). She struggles to fit in with the rest of her Baptist family that are staunchly religious. After passing out from excessive drugs and alcohol one night, she wakes up to find herself pregnant. Shane (Charles Socarides), the young man she likes, took advantage of her while she was unconcious. Unable to recall ever having sex, she then believes that she has spoken with God through her dreams and that the birth of her child will bring the second coming of Jesus Christ. However, this does not go over well at all within the Church and causes a myriad of problems within her family and community. Jessie firmly believes in her immaculate conception, much to the dismay of her fundamentalist parents. Other characters include Katie Reynolds (Stephanie Gatschet), Michael (Sam Riley), and Red (Robert Berlin).

The film is never quite as startling or mysterious as it seems to want to be, leaving it in an uncertain cinematic limbo.
