Volere Volare (I Want to Fly) is a 1991 Italian comedy from actor/writer/director Maurizio Nichetti. The film follows two quirky people who work to make others' fantasies a reality. Maurizio "Spaffino" (Maurizio Nichetti) is a sound technician who spends his days finding and recording the perfect sounds for cartoons. He is shy and sheltered and has no luck with women, unlike his brother, Patrizio (Patrizio Roversi). Martina is a lady of the night who specializes in meeting her clients imaginative, but mostly harmless, desires. When, by dumb luck, Maurizio accidentally stumbles into one of her elaborate "scenarios," her thrilled clients demand that he be included full-time. An unlikely romance blossoms between the two, but life takes Maurizio in yet another unexpected direction: he starts to transform into a cartoon character! Nichetti and co-director Guido Manuli blend together live action and Chuck Jones-style animation to bring his character's absurd dilemma to life in this genre-bending tale.
