Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death is a stop-animation short film directed by Nick Park. Wallace (Peter Sallis) and his dog, Gromit, are bakery workers who get caught up a string of baker deaths. Wallace soon becomes infatuated with the "Bake-O-Lite Girl," Piella (Sally Lindsay) and is therefore doesn't see what is right under his nose. Right from the start Gromit seems to know that something fishy is up with this Piella, while Wallace is blinded by love. After one of his outings with Piella and her pet poodle, Fluffles (Melissa Collier), Wallace discovers she has left her purse at his house. As it is storming, he sends Gromit out to return it. Gromit discovers a horrifying scene that seems to show that Piella is not as wonderful as she seems. He finds pictures of dead bakers as well as the uniforms of 12 bakers on 12 manicans. When Piella suddenly shows up, he finds himself trapped and has to hide through the night while Piella sleeps. He rushes out in the morning to warn Wallace only to discover that Piella has beaten there. When Piella and Wallace announce that they are engaged, Gromit realizes that he will not be able to get rid of Piella so easily. Gromit does all he can to safeguard the home against the impending danger that he believes Piella poses. The climactic last scenes keep the viewer on her toes, and it is never quite certain who will prevail.moreless
