Waltz with Bashir is a 2008 animated drama about a former Israeli soldier who struggles to remember things that happened to him when he was serving in the army. Ari Folman (playing himself) was a soldier in the Israeli Defense Force when he was a teenager and served honorably in the 1982 Lebanon War. Many years later, he meets up with a friend from the war who is experiencing nightmares related to his former combat. Unusually, Ari seems to be having no trouble with nightmares at all and barely seems to remember anything associated with his military service. Worried by his almost complete loss of memory, Ari decides to investigate his past and learns that he was present during a massacre of civilians. Although he did not participate in the killings, Ari has been so consumed with grief that he has blacked out virtually every memory connected to it. As he struggles to deal with the memories, his true role in the massacre is slowly revealed.moreless

A memoir, a history lesson, a combat picture, a piece of investigative journalism and an altogether amazing film.
