Watchmen - Director's Cut is an adaptation of the classic alternate-history graphic novel. The world teeters on the brink of an all-out nuclear war between the US and the Soviet Union. President Nixon is in his fifth term, after having won the Vietnam War in 1971 with the help of "costumed adventurers" -- real-life superheroes -- such as the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup). The story begins with the brutal murder of the Comedian, thrown from the picture window of his plush high-rise apartment. As nuclear tensions mount, someone is stalking the old superheroes -- Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) and Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), forced into retirement by the 1977 Keene Act -- one by one. But who is targeting them, and why? The Director's Cut adds nearly half an hour of new material, adding more historical context and smoothing over the sometimes jarring transitions in Zack Snyder's original theatrical release.
