Watchmen is a superhero film released in 2009, directed by Zack Snyder and based on the DC comic book series released in twelve parts in 1986 and 1987. The film is set in an alternate history 1985, during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, against a background of increasing fear of nuclear war. This is an alternate history in which superheroes have been a permanent fixture of crime fighting in the United States. The film centers on the Watchmen, a team of superheroes. After the group is outlawed by Congress, its renegade member Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) discovers a plot to kill the remaining Watchmen. After failing to convince his fellow superheroes, Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), Dr Manhattan (Billy Crudup) and Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman), Rorschach is framed for the murder of Moloch (Matt Frewer). Finally, Rorschach is able to lead the Watchmen in an attempt to uncover the emerging conspiracy.
