Waterproof is a 2000 movie about a single mother named Tyree Battle (April Grace), her son Thaniel (Cordereau Dye), and a Jewish shopkeeper named Eli Zeal (Burt Reynolds). Tyree is a single mother struggling to keep Thaniel away from the city streets, which are plagued with gangs and criminals. Thaniel continually involves himself with the gangs who force him to do several tasks before he is officially allowed to enter the group. On one of his missions, things go horribly wrong, and he ends up accidentally shooting Eli in a botched robbery attempt. In order to avoid seeing her son go to prison, Tyree kidnaps Thaniel, and the two flee to her hometown of Waterproof. While in Waterproof, Tyree and Thaniel recover and heal their troubled lives. However, will the police ever catch up to the two and take Thaniel away for good? Directed by Barry Berman, this feel-good movie is appropriate for the whole family.
