Watership Down is an animated film from 1978, based on Richard Adams's book of the same name, featuring the voices of several well-known British actors. This is no light-hearted child's cartoon, but a serious and sometimes frightening tale. It follows the journey of a group of rabbits who must leave their warren after receiving a vision that it will be destroyed. In their quest to find a new home, the rabbits, led by Fiver (Richard Briers) and Hazel (John Hurt), face danger from violent rivals who live in a neighboring warren. Known as the Efrafa, these rabbits are led by the war-like General Woundwart (Harry Andrews), who runs his warren as a totalitarian state. Dogs and hawks are among other perils the rabbits confront as they journey to their new home, Watership Down. Even after reaching their destination, threats to the rabbits' safety abound. Directed by Martin Rosen and John Hubley, this box office hit also features the song "Bright Eyes" performed by Art Garfunkel.moreless
