Movie Summary

Penelope Spheeris

Wayne Campbell and his friend Garth Algar host a show out of their basement that's very popular in their local haunt of Aurora, Illinois. Soon, a big Hollywood so and so named Benjamin comes knocking wanting to take the show prime time, but of course with a wider audience comes compromise and the boys might not be willing to. On top of sinister designs for the show, Benjamin also has romantic designs on Wayne's sexy girlfriend Cassandra. Wayne must then fight for his artistic integrity and his girl's affection, before Benjamin can weasel both away from him.

The film tends to be funny when confining itself to short sketches or dopey television-based humor, flat when pretending to be anything more.

Director Penelope Spheeris, with her first major studio assignment (and eight-figure budget), delivers a colorful but uneventful picture.
