Wendy and Lucy is a 2008 drama about a young woman living on the fringes of society. Wendy Carroll (Michelle Williams) is passing through Oregon on her way to a promising job in Alaska when her car breaks down. With few possessions, little cash, and a dog named Lucy in tow, Wendy is desperate to get back on the road. Since she has barely enough money to fix her car and Lucy is out of food, Wendy tries to shoplift a can of dog food. When an unforgiving cashier has the police haul Wendy away, she must leave Lucy tied outside the store. However, Wendy's bad luck has only begun; when she returns to the store that evening, Lucy is gone. Alone and broke in an unfamiliar town, Wendy must find a way to repair her car and retrieve Lucy before she can pursue her dream in Alaska. Wendy and Lucy was directed by Kelly Reichardt, who is known for her well-regarded indie features, including Old Joy and Meek's Cutoff.moreless
