West of Cimarron is a 1941 feature film directed by Lester Orlebeck. It is part of a longer-running black and white series. The movie revolves around a group based on a pun, the Three Mesquiteers, comprised of Tucson Smith (Bob Steele), Stony Brooke (Tom Tyler) and Lullaby Joslin (Rufe Davis). These men have returned to Texas after the Civil War, only to find their town being ruined by corrupt carpetbaggers (Northerners who went to the South after the war). The carpetbaggers are led by Captain Hawks (Roy Barcroft). The Three Mesquiteers join with Dr. Ken Morgan (James Bush), a local, to defeat Captain Hawks and the exploitative Northerners. Although the corruption is not apparent at first, after some investigation the Three Mesquiteers realize that the implanted northern civilian authority is abusing its power by overtaxing the local citizens. Meanwhile, bushwhackers (southern guerillas) are responding in their own way. Can the Mesquiteers get to the bottom of the problem and restore justice to Texas?moreless
