West of Here is a 2002 musical romantic drama directed by Peter Masterson. In the film, Gil Blackwell (Josh Hamilton) and his cousin, Josiah Blackwell (Nobert Leo Blitz), are best friends. Since Josiah's parents were killed in a car accident, Gil's parents took him in and raised the boys like brothers. The boys went off to college together and their mission after they graduated was to play music together and drink beer. Their plans were destroyed when Josiah was killed before they had achieved their dreams. His best friend's death makes Gil reconsider everything he wants out of life. Despite his father's disapproval, he decides that he is going to travel to California and make every effort to become a professional musician. Along the way, he runs into Genevieve Anderson (Mary Stuart Masterson), his old college girlfriend, and she further rekindles his love of music and of her. Will Genevieve and Gil make it big in California?
