Whale is an independent drama that shows how an author overcomes his writer's block and learns a few valuable things in the process. Amir Motlagh wrote and directed the film and takes the lead role as Cameron, a novice author who's out of ideas. He feels the only way to get past his problem is to reconnect with his roots, so he packs up and moves back into his parent's home in Orange County. At home, his father (Yousef Motlagh) is a hardworking man and would prefer his son find a real job and give up writing. Tired of listening to dad, Cameron grabs his skateboard and meets up with his old friends, Marty (Martin Nilchian), Ras (Rastin Ashtiani), Darren (Darren Oneil), and his ex-girlfriend, Kristen (Kindy Barr). After explaining his problems, the group decides to take a trip along the California coast. While driving, Cameron argues with Ras, who claims that the writer is wasting his life, trying to fulfill a dream he'll never achieve. A distraught Cameron then leaves the group alone on the highway, and Kristen soon follows. The two rekindle their old relationship. Cameron must now make some tough life-changing decisions with practically no one on his side to help him.

Parents should know that the ending makes the last moments of this family-friendly documentary as tough as "Bambi." But the lessons about friendship are gigantic, indeed.
