What Black Men Think is a provocative documentary that looks at the stereotypes, misrepresentations, and myths surrounding black men in American that have made then "non-necessities." Director Janks Morton discusses the difficulties that many American black men face when trying to move ahead in the world and how the media perpetuates the downward spiral many find themselves in. Since the 1960's the African American family has undergone a radical change, and the film chronicles the demise of the black man as a father figure. Choosing not to place blame on anyone but rather encouraging change to come from within the community, Janks' film is a call to action for American black men everywhere. Many of the talking heads featured in the film come from a politically conservative background, making the film perhaps more appealing to those with similar beliefs. Many have claimed that What Black Men Think is an excellent introduction into black conservative politics rather than an expose on the plight of the community.moreless
