What Goes Up is a 2009 comedic drama written and directed by Jonathan Glatzer, which tells the story of a psychologically affected New York journalist who enters the world of a few troubled high school students while covering an official story. Reporter Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan) is assigned the task to cover the launch of the Challenger Space Shuttle in New Hampshire. Still deeply affected by the loss of a dear friend who committed suicide, Campbell arrives in the small town only to find out that the launch has been postponed for a couple of days. He takes the opportunity to meet some local students who are having trouble finding their path in life and dealing with their frustrations. Lucy Diamond (Hilary Duff) is a charming but arrogant girl who has problems maintaining a normal social life. Jim Lement (Josh Peck) struggles with overcoming his shyness and Tess Sullivan (Olivia Thirlby) has troubles with coming to terms with her unexpected pregnancy. With the amount of drama Campbell discovers among this group of students, covering the launch is no longer a priority.moreless
