Audrey (Alfre Woodard), the matriarch of the African-American Williams family, is struggling with her marriage and trying to come to terms with her estranged college drop-out son, Michael (Eric George). Rachel Seelig (Kyra Sedgwick) is finding it hard to convince her Jewish parents, Ruth (Lainie Kazan) and Herb (Maury Chaykin), to accept her relationship with another woman. Elizabeth Avila (Mercedes Ruehl), the mother of a Hispanic family, feels shocked to learn that her son Anthony (Douglas Spain) has invited his estranged father Javier (Victor Rivers) to Thanksgiving dinner. And the Nguyen family, a Vietnamese-American clan, are experiencing drama as Trinh (Joan Chen) fights with her daughter Jenny (Kristy Wu) over their family customs. Each family spins out its own story of warmth, drama, tears, laughter and staying true to their cultures and ties in a diverse world.moreless
