What's Love Got to Do With It is the acclaimed 1993 biopic sensation chronicling the rise and trials and tribulations of megastar singer Tina Turner. Anna Mae (Angela Bassett) is a shy young girl who has travelled to St. Louis, Missouri to reunite with the mother who abandoned her as a child and frequents the bar/nightclub where one of her sisters works. A frequent act there is popular blues singer Ike Turner and his band. Anna Mae is smitten with the man's charm and voice and when he offers the chance for a lucky girl in the crowd to join him in a co-croon onstage, she preps for it until the fateful day she raises her hand, is picked and ushered onstage to dazzle the crowd with her latent vocal stylings. Eventually, Turner compels her to join his band and 'Tina' Turner is soon born ' a new up and coming singer who begins to take the world by storm. Soon also begins the marital struggle that unfortunately encompassed verbal and physical abuse.moreless
