When Worlds Collide is a 1951 science fiction film directed by Rudolph Mat''. When Pilot David Randall (Richard Derr) is contracted to fly top-secret photographs from South African astronomer Dr. Emery Bronson (Hayden Rorke) to Dr. Cole Hendron (Larry Keating) in the United States, he soon discovers earth will collide with a runaway star called Bellus. While world governments refuse to believe the scientists, a wealthy investor, Sidney Stanton (John Hoyt), agrees to finance the building of an escape rocket that will take survivors to Zyra, a planet in the orbit of Bellus, in exchange for a seat on the ship. As the end of the world approaches, tidal waves and earthquakes wreak havoc as the star's gravitational force exerts pressure on the earth. Now, with Armageddon in sight, governments of the world begin building rockets as well. Unfortunately, it is too little, too late.
