Where the Buffalo Roam is a comedy based on the writings of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. It draws most of its inspiration from an article written by Thompson for Rolling Stone entitled, "The Banshee Screams for Buffalo Meat." The film opens in Colorado where Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (Bill Murray) is writing a story about his friend and attorney, Carl Lazlo (Peter Boyle). As Thompson writes the story, the film flashes back to the actual occurrences he is describing. Thompson and Lazlo first meet while Lazlo is defending a group of young men who are on trial for marijuana possession. Thompson writes a story about the case, but the men are jailed anyway and Lazlo ends up imprisoned for attacking the lead prosecutor. Thompson and Lazlo meet several times over the ensuing years, as Thompson grows increasingly famous and Lazlo becomes more and more detached from society. Where the Buffalo Roam is a film that demonstrates the truth of no matter how crazy you are, there is always someone even crazier.moreless
