While You Were Sleeping is the 1995 romantic comedy hit starring everybody's favorite doe eyed sweet girl Sandra Bullock and directed by hit maker Jon Turteltaub (3 Ninjas, National Treasure). Bullock plays Lucy, a lonely woman who works at a train station. For a few weeks a certain customer comes to the train station, she doesn't know him and they have never spoken before but Lucy has fallen for him in a big way. One day, on Christmas, Lucy has to work and her dream man, Peter, comes in and is suddenly attacked and then falls on to the train track, which leaves Lucy to save him. When he is taken to hospital he is unconscious. The whole family then seems to think that Lucy is Peter's fianc'e. Lucy can't bear to tell them the truth so the rest of the film follows with everyone thinking Lucy is Peter's fianc'e. When Lucy meets Jack, Peter's brother, however, he doesn't think Lucy is all she seems.

Metacritic Score

  • 90

The New York Times Elvis Mitchell

This is a formula film, but it has the kind of good cheer and fine tuning that occasionally give slickness a good name.

  • 70

    Variety Leonard Klady

Director Jon Turteltaub has a smooth style suited to classic farce and knows just how to pace the material to accentuate the positive.

  • 60

    Los Angeles Times Peter Rainer

It's a movie about the warm feeling you get when you belong to a family, and, throughout, the thermostat is turned up high.
