Whispers: An Elephant's Tale is a 2000 Disney family movie directed by Dereck Joubert. The film, set in Africa, focuses on the tale of a young baby elephant, Whispers (Debi Derryberry). Early in Whispers' life, he is separated from his mother. Confused and lonely Whispers wanders off and gets lost. He thinks he has found salvation when he runs into a female elephant, Groove (Angela Bassett). However, Groove may not be what Whispers needs, she is the sister of an alpha-female, an outcast from her own herd and has no maternal instincts. Despite their personality conflict, Groove agrees to help Whispers, just till they find his mother, or a suitable herd. With the threat of poachers, lions and a lack of water plaguing them every where they go, the two elephants make a difficult decision to take a very dangerous journey heading north over the great river to look for Whispers family and safety from the elements.
