The White Dawn is a 1974 American film directed by Philip Kaufman and starring Warren Oates, Timothy Bottoms, and Louis Gossett Jr. The film tells the story of three whalers who become stranded in the Arctic Circle. When they are rescued by a tribe of Eskimos, they begin to assimilate within their culture. The two distinct ways of living come to a head when the whalers introduce gambling, thievery, and western-style sex to the village. While at first the Eskimos tolerate their behavior, the longer it continues they begin to despise the whalers. Eventually the two cultures clash in such a way that leads to a dramatic turning point for the whalers.
