White Zombie is a 1932 horror movie directed by brothers Victor Halperin and Edward Halperin. The story follows Madeline Short (Madge Bellamy), a young woman, and her fiance Neil Parker (John Harron). The two accept an invitation from a man named Charles Beaumont (Robert Frazer) to get married on his plantation in Haiti. Beaumont's actions are not as selfless as they seem, however, and it is revealed that his real intentions were to convince the bride-to-be to run away with him. He turns to a dark and mysterious voodoo master named 'Murder' Legendre (Bela Lugosi) for help. Legendre, a man known for transforming people into zombies to work in his sugar cane mill, agrees to help Beaumont and offers him a potion that turns whoever drinks it into a zombie. Beaumont manages to slip Madeline the potion and she dies shortly after her wedding and comes back as a zombie. Beaumont becomes dissatisfied with the emotionless creature he is left with and regrets what he did. He once again turns to Legendre to reverse the transformation, but Legendre refuses and reveals his own plans for Madeline. At the same time Madeline's grieving widower starts to put the pieces together and find out what truly happened to his wife.moreless
