Whose Life Is It Anyway? is a 1981 drama starring Richard Dreyfus as a quadriplegic fighting for legal self-determination. Ken Harrison (Richard Dreyfuss), a successful sculptor, becomes paralyzed below the neck following an auto accident. At first, Ken's dark humor and fighting spirit makes him a popular patient among the orderlies, and inspires romantic interest from Dr. Clare Scott (Christine Lahti). When his doctor, Dr. Michael Emerson (John Cassavetes), informs him that physical rehabilitation will not bring back the use of his arms and legs, Ken wants the legal right to end his own life. The doctors and staff will not help him, and his physical condition makes it impossible for him to take matters in his own hand. So, he hires attorney Carter Hill (Bob Balaban) to help him with the case in court. John Badham ("Saturday Night Fever") directs this provocative drama from the award-winning stage play of the same name by British playwright Brian Clark.
