Why Must I Die? is a 1960 drama directed by Ray Del Ruth that has an innocent woman sitting on death row, while the real killer struggles with her guilt? In the film, Lois King (Terry Moore) is a night club singer trying to get her big break into the music industry. Her life is shattered when her boyfriend, Charlie Munro (Robert Shayne), dies of a heart attack. She takes a job at a new club, The Cockatoo, and before she knows it, she has fallen in love again - this time with Kenny Randall (Phil Harvey), the manager of the club. For a second time, her life is shattered when Kenny is murdered one evening. As the events play out, Lois is the one accused of murdering her lover and although she is innocent, the jury finds her guilty and puts her on death row. Her lawyer Adler (Bert Freed) believes in her innocence and vows to help her escape execution. After investigation the case, Adler believes that Dottie Manson (Debra Paget) is the actual murderer, but can he talk her into confessing her guilt? As Lois' execution date gets closer, Dottie's feelings of guilt grow stronger. Can she let an innocent woman die for her sins or will she confess her guilt and give Lois the freedom she deserves?moreless
