Wichita is the story of the famed lawman, Wyatt Earp (Joel McCrea) and his role in cleaning up the town of Wichita, Kansas. Wichita had become a lawless cattle town and the townsfolk feared for their safety. Earp is hired by the city fathers to clean up the bad seeds who now inhabit the once safe city. Director Jacques Tourneur takes some liberty with the precise events of Earp and his affairs in Wichita, but the major points of good versus evil are still there, and Earp's legendary Western hero status remains intact. Aided by Bat Masterson (Keith Larsen), Wyatt sets out to rid Wichita of its corruption, and maybe steal a lady's heart along the way. Laurie McCoy (Vera Miles) is Earp's love interest who falls for his bravery, courageousness, and of course, rugged good looks. Wichita is a classic Western with lawlessness, gunslinging, lawmen and good versus evil.
