Wild Strawberries is a dramatic film directed by Ingmar Bergman that focuses on an old man as he contemplates and looks back at his life. Professor Isak Borg (Victor Sjostrom) is a rather irritable and arrogant doctor, whose difficult personality has put a damper on his own relationships with his family. When he sets out with his pregnant daughter-in-law Marianne (Ingrid Thulin) to receive an honorary degree from his former university, Isak reflects on his life, all the good and the bad, with each remembrance spawned by the series of hitchhikers they pick up along the way. He remembers the love his young life, Sara (Bibi Andersson), who he never married just as he recognizes the bitterness and spite in his own life and unhappy marriage to Karin (Gertrud Fridh). Wild Strawberries is a poignant look at a man at the end of his life reflecting on his early journeys.
