Written and directed by Tom Gries, Will Penny is a 1968 American Western film starring Charlton Heston, Joan Hackett, and Donald Pleasence. The film tells the story of Will Penny (Heston), an aging cowboy looking for an easy job. He finds work on a ranch scouting the property line for trespassers or squatters. When he discovers that Catherine Allen (Hackett) and her son have been living in his cabin in the mountains he agrees to let them stay until after the winter. The two stragglers were abandoned by a guide who was taking them to Oregon. As the months pass, Catherine and Will form a bond that begins to stretch beyond friendship. Catherine, however, is on her way to Oregon to meet her husband there. Penny and Will must then decide if they want to break the rules and pursue a relationship with each other or if they must go their separate ways.
