Movie Summary

Winter's Bone is a 2010 drama directed by Debra Granik. In the Ozarks, many of the residents are impoverished. Although familial bonds run deep, dangerous rivalries and the threat of drug addiction make life difficult for most locals. Although she is only 17, Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) is forced to get by on her own and take care of her two young siblings, Sonny (Isaiah Stone) and Ashlee (Ashlee Thompson). Her father is missing and her mother is catatonic, meaning that Ree is the only one keeping the family together. Things change drastically for Ree when Sherriff Baskin (Garret Dillahunt) shows up at the family's humble, ramshackle home. The sherriff is apologetic, but he tells Ree that if her father does not return and attend his court date, his house will be repossessed as part of his bond. Faced with the prospect of losing everything, Ree sets out to find her father, calling on her estranged uncle (John Hawkes) for help. As she tries to deal with dangerous locals, Ree finds herself uncovering dark secrets that put her life in grave danger.moreless
