Wonderful World is a dark comedy drama that revolves around Ben Singer (Matthew Broderick), an unsuccessful children's folk singer. Cynicism and negativity rule Ben's life, and his young daughter is indifferent to his attempts to be a weekend dad. His only pleasure comes from smoking marijuana, and he seems to derive his greatest intellectual challenge playing chess with his smart Senegalese roommate, Ibu, (Michael Kenneth Williams). Unfortunately, Ibu unexpectedly becomes ill and is taken to hospital. Subsequent events seem to reinforce Ben's negative outlook on life, but when Ibu's beautiful and sexy sister, Khadi (Sanaa Lathan), arrives from Senegal and takes over Ibu's room in the apartment, things begin to change. As Ben and Khadi's relationship develops, Ben begins to adopt a new perspective. Released by Magnolia Pictures, Wonderful World marks the 2009 directorial debut of Joshua Goldin, and features supporting performances by Jodelle Ferland, Jesse Tyler, Ally Walker, and Philip Baker Hall.
