Woyzeck is a psychological thriller about a man driven to insanity over his lover's infidelities. Franz Woyzeck (Klaus Kinski) is a German soldier stationed in a small town, living with his mistress Marie (Eva Mattes), and their child. He adores them both, and because their son was born out of wedlock, Woyzeck does not get the typical governmental support, and earns extra money by performing routine, mundane jobs for his captain and volunteering for medical experiments. As part of one such experiment, he is forced to eat nothing but peas, and the soldier's mental state begins to crumble, even having apocalyptic visions enter his mind. In the midst of this breakdown, Woyzeck endures abuse from his Captain and hints of infidelities from his young mistress. But when she leaves him for a drum major, a psychologically compromised Woyzeck snaps, setting in motion a series of tragic events from which there is no return. Legendary director Werner Herzog teams up with Kinski in this introspective, enigmatic drama about the thin line between insanity and reality.moreless
