Wyatt Earp: Special Edition

Movie Summary

Director:
Lawrence Kasdan
Released:
1994
Rating:
PG-13

Wyatt Earp: Special Edition stars Kevin Costner as Wyatt Earp in director Lawrence Kasdan's dark vision of the lawman's life and times in the Old West. The film explores Earp's life in the lead up to the famous gun battle at the OK Corral. In particular, the film shows Earp forming his group of law enforcers including Doc Holliday (Dennis Quaid) and his brothers Nicholas (Gene Hackman) and James (David Andrews). Kasdan depicts Earp in public as a man dedicated to law and order and in private as a man who is morally conflicted because of his extra-marital love affair with a prostitute. Rather than present Earp as strictly a hero of the Old West, Kasdan goes to great pains to paint a full portrait of this American icon. This special edition of the movie includes extra footage that fleshes out numerous subplots from the theatrical cut as well as bonus features including director commentary and a behind the scenes documentary of the making of the film.
