Movie Summary

Director:
Bryan Singer
Released:
2003
Rating:
PG-13

Several months have passed since the X-Men have defeated and imprisoned their nemesis, Magneto. This conquest was a victory for the X-Men and all mutants. With Magneto locked up the mutants feel secure at Professor X's hidden Mutant Academy. This sense of security is tested when a mutant assassin, Nightcrawler, sneaks into the White House and attempts to murder the President. Almost immediately, anti-mutant actions are being planned and carried out by the military. The X-Men, including Wolverine, Rogue, Iceman and a few others find themselves under attack. Soon the X-Men realize their only chance at saving mutant-kind may be to form unlikely alliances with enemies.

Metacritic Score

  • 80

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Brisk and involving with a streamlined forward propulsion, it's the kind of superhero movie we want if we have to have superhero movies at all.

  • 80

    Variety Todd McCarthy

About twice as good as the original...bigger and more ambitious in every respect, from its action and visceral qualities to its themes.

  • 70

The New York Times Dana Stevens

Mr. Singer and his collaborators grasp that comic books, for all their obligatory fights and explosions, are at bottom about their brave, troubled, impossibly muscled characters.
