Year of the Gun is a 1991 American film directed by John Frankenheimer. When David Rayborne (Andrew McCarthy), an American journalist cover news in Italy, accidentally becomes involved in a murder plot involving the Red Brigades, Rayborne must fight for his innocence and his life. Alison King (Sharon Stone), Rayborne's photojournalist friend, also becomes entangled in the scheme, which is to murder the former Primer Minsiter of Italy Aldo Moro. When Alison stumbles upon the Red Brigade's mysterious actions, she beings photographing everything she sees. Rayborne then warns her of the dangers of being an accidental witness and the two must go on the lam. Based on the novel by Michael Mewshaw, the screenplay was adapted by David Ambrose. Also starring Valeria Golino, John Pankow, George Murcell, Mattia Sbragia, Roberto Posse, and Thomas Elliot, Year of the Gun received mixed reviews upon its release and was not a financial success.
