Yellow Card is a 2000 coming-of-age drama that questions the difficult challenges surrounding sexual responsibility in teens. The story begins with Tiyane (Leroy Gopal), a rising star on the local township football team and all-around responsible kid who is expected to have a bright future. His attractive looks and seeming maturity also make Tiyane a target for females, especially his long-time neighborhood friend Linda. The two flirt and eventually it leads to an unprotected sexual encounter that brings a child into both of their lives. At the age of 17, Tiyane begins to have a hard time balancing his life as he struggles to face up to the fact that he has to raise a son. As his personal world crumbles around him, Tiyane begins to use the sport of soccer as an escape as he strives towards his ultimate goal of becoming a professional player. Yellow Card was filmed in Zimbabwe and directed by John Riber.
