You Can Call Me Nikkie is a documentary short about a transgendered prostitute living and working in Tokyo. Irene Carolina Herrera directs this short, introspective piece that questions what it means to live your dream. Nikkie was born in the Philippines, raised in California, and after performing an operation to become a woman, moved to Las Vegas to work as a whore. From there Nikkie moved to Tokyo to turn tricks and earn money to support her future family, something she enjoys and feels comfortable doing. She explains how, as a young person, she felt like a woman and wanted to be able to look the way she felt. The 7 video was made for the International Documentary Challenge 2008, and offers a very unique look at what the true meaning of success is; Nikkie is not a prostitute out of necessity, but rather because the work appeals to her. You Can Call Me Nikkie may not give the typical depiction of fulfilling your dreams, but the world is not always typical.moreless
