Youngblood centers on young seventeen-year-old Dean Youngblood whose dreams of a career playing professional hockey is put to the test as he sets out to prove his worth to not only the league but also his family. Though talented, Dean learns that flashiness does not quite mean much as brutes like Carl Racki are always out there to hip check them to the ice. Determined to adapt and win after his mentor Derek Sutton is brutalized and injured by Racki during a game, Dean works hard to take the bully on head on in the Memorial Cup playoffs as his team, the Hamilton Mustangs, faces off against Racki's Thunder Bay Bombers.
