You've Got Mail is the third pairing of comedy sweethearts Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in this sweet 1998 remake of "The Shop Around the Corner." Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) owns a specialty Manhattan bookstore. Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) is the obnoxious owner of a mega-bookstore chain that will likely run her out of business when it opens in the neighborhood. Kathleen tries to stand in his way, but nothing will stop Joe from reaching his yearly quota of new stores. Unbeknownst to these business rivals, they also know each other as online pen pals. They each begin the story with different partners: Kathleen lives with Frank (Greg Kinnear) and Joe lives with self-involved Patricia (Parker Posey). But, eventually their true selves will meet their online counterparts. Director Nora Ephron ("Sleepless in Seattle") wrote the script (with her sister, Delia) and brings her trademark wit and polish to the irresistible combination of Hanks and Ryan.
