Movie Summary

Robert J. Rosenthal

Zapped! is the 1982 cult sci fi comedy, from director/co-writer Robert J. Rosenthal, that lifts skirts just as frequently and expertly as it lifts spirits. Barney Springboro (Scott Baio, Happy Days, Charles in Charge) is a lovable high school science geek, putting his talents to such uses as growing pot in his lab. One day, he is hit on the head and knocked unconscious which, when he wakes up, results in him discovering the hit has awakened in latent telekinesis ability in him! Peyton (Willie Aimes, Eight is Enough, Charles in Charge) wishes to exploit his buddy's telekinesis in an unfair duel with a college hunk named Robert (Greg Bradford) over the high school prom queen Jane Mitchell (the ridiculously hot Heather Thomas). Meanwhile Barney and nosy and 'nerdy' but attractive high school news editor Bernadette (Felice Schachter) begin courting as she, along with Peyton, are the only two who know of his powers. A problem develops as Bernadette wishes for Barney to stop helping Peyton use his power as a gambling tool. Soon, he'll have to choose between Payton and Bernadette.

Surprisingly, the special effects aren't bad but they're wasted in a film that features a vomiting contest as a highlight. Skip this one.

ZAPPED! is a half-baked, rather retarded parody of Carrie and a number of other films that, using the awesome power of their ignorance, drove telekinesis into the ground.
