Zaitoichi: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi and the Fugitives is a Japanese action/adventure drama released in 1968 and directed by Kimiyoshi Yasuda. The main character of the film is Zaitoichi (Shintaro Katsu), he is a wandering blind masseur and a master swordsman. When Zaitoichi arrives in a new town, he is quickly befriended by a local doctor, Dr. Junan (Takashi Shimura). Dr. Junan offers Zaitoichi a job massaging his patients. Not long after his arrival, the swordsman learns of a local silk mill that has brutal working conditions. The women working in the silk mill are sweatshop slaves. Zaitoichi vows to save a particular woman from the sweatshop. What Zaitoichi does not know is the local corrupt police chief is hiding a gang of bandits in the attic of the sweatshop. The gang is manipulating the police chief and Zaitoichi unknowingly becomes entangled in a bitter battle with the bandits and the police chief.
