Ziegfeld Girl is a 1941 drama and musical about the challenges and joys of show business. In the world of Broadway, becoming a Ziegfeld Girl is one of the best things that can happen to an aspiring star. For three of the Ziegfeld stars, however, life is still complicated. Sandra Kolter (Hedy Lamarr) enjoys her line of work, especially because the wage she earns helps keep her and her husband (Philip Dorn) warm, fed and clothed. Her husband is a struggling violinist who feels conflicted about his wife's job, especially since it involves such revealing clothing and seductive dancing. The attentions of a handsome singer (Tony Martin) only make Sandra's marital vows more difficult. Meanwhile, Sandra's coworker Susan (Judy Garland) is seeking fame as a singer. The only problem is that she has to care for her father (Charles Winninger), who is increasingly needy with age. Beautiful but shallow Sheila (Lana Turner) has to decide between her humble, hardworking boyfriend, Gilbert (Jimmy Stewart), and the allure of wealth and fame.
