Sometimes people take the right decision, sometimes they don't. Roxette's "MTV Unplugged" was never released and distributed on CD. I think this fit into the wrong decision category. I'd even dare to say it was a big big mistake! hide show
Roxette recorded 20 songs for the show. When it was finally aired, back in 1993, only 12 of them made into the final cut. Thirteen years later, in late 2006 (and after so much struggle), the full show was finally available on DVD. It spans songs from "Look Sharp!" (1988) to "Tourism" (1992). Only one song ("Surrender") was taken from their very first album, "Pearls of Passion" (1986). All the obvious hits are here, including the four US #1's: "The Look", "Listen To Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love" and "Joyride"... plus many other not-so-well-known hidden treasures.
I have to say that many of the best performances were the scrapped ones! "Spending My Time", "Surrender", "Watercolours In The Rain" and "Perfect Day" are among the best, in my opinion. The fact this show was never officially released on CD (bootlegs don't count at all) amazes me. I've heard really bad MTV shows being widely released and distributed, while this gem never received such a treatment. I wonder how a newer MTV session would sound, including songs that didn't exist back in 1993. "Crash! Boom! Bang!", "Sleeping In My Car", "You Don't Understand Me", "Wish I Could Fly", "Salvation", "Real Sugar"... I am sure it would be an incredible experience.
