When Randy is about to turn off the prison TV, another Camden episode of "COPS" is shown, this time it evolves around the events on Independence Day.

The last episode I saw was 2 weeks ago and it was 'Creative Writing' which was really bad television. I missed last week which from what I've read got back to the point of the show. However to put it simply...this is another filler, and a two part filler as well.
Where as 'Creative Writing' was not funny or charming at all this actually made me laugh a few times. We are once again back to the point where Darnell and Joy are fooling around, this time the year is 2002, and Earl and co feature heavily as the Cops are called in, to deal with their many mischievous and domestic disturbances. The reference's to Osama and Saddam are really funny especially the one who says Saddam should pay for September 11. Whether the American's were actually brainwashed into thinking that I don't know but I remember Bush saying it and that's why it's funny.
Other highlights are Randy at the very beginning as a prison guard, Catalina fighting over a customer at the strip club and Kenny before he was out of the closet admiring a cop.
Honestly this isn't one of the strongest episodes, nor does it play to the series strengths at all but it was mildly entertaining non the less.
Another unneeded cops episode hide show
The first episode of Cops was original and pretty funny, and fit in well with the second season, but the fact that they do another one this season is unoriginal and nowhere near as entertaining as the first one.
I'm enjoying the Earl in prison arc, as it is very entertaining and fresh, but if they are going to have him in jail, they should make the most of it, and get some more prison stories in before he leaves, instead of doing another Cops episode, which was barely funny.
On the other hand, this did have its moments, such as the lamb, stealing the bumper car, and the cop speeches, the "stab me" sign and the September 11 aftermath is a good approach to the episode for paranoia.
Overall, the episode is okay, but it's been done before.
Less than a year after the original "Our Cops is On" episode, we find out that no one should be on COPS more than once... hide show
There was only one question that I had at the end of this episode – why?
This episode seems to be a step back for the series as a whole, as this concept was used in an episode less than a year ago. More than that, this episode was a two-parter, which means that in there have been three repeats in the (roughly) 50 episode history of the show.
More than that, this episode seemed to offer some strange development for Randy. After a couple of years of attempting to better himself - getting his GED, marrying the woman that he loves (albeit with some interesting complications), and "discovering" karma (during the episode "Harassed a Reporter") - it seems somewhat strange that Randy would be okay with people respecting him for some of the poorer choices that he has made. On top of this problem, there was very little in the way of development. I usually enjoy any sort of "flashback" into Earl's past, as it usually offers an amusing and entertaining stor, along with some insight into the characters. But in this episode, I felt as though I understood the characters less, and it left me asking what the point of the episode was. The only thing that we understand now is that the prisoners will be giving Randy fewer problems than they had been in the past.
There were some entertaining parts to this episode, I found the entire segment with Randy, Earl, Joy and the infrared camera pretty entertaining. But most of the episode seemed to be a poor attempt at satire. At several points, the show seems to be trying to poke fun at a wide array of topics (terrorism, police, environmentalists) without being sure how to do so.
Overall, it was a disappointing hour of television. Aside from some of the more clever jokes, you could have skiped this episode and not really feel like you missed anything.
Earl needs to get back what was good about it. This was just dumb. Some parts were funny, but most of it was just stupid to the point of annoying. hide show
I'm only writing this because last seasons episodes were so good. Throwing him into prison for cheap prison jokes was bad move #1 and then it was just all downhill from there. I'm noticing that more and more people are agreeing with me on this board.
My review...or at least what's worth remembering: Randy is going to turn off the prison tv and then suddenly his episode of Cops comes on the tv. Everything that follows is something that my 8 year old newphew could write. It was just a waste of time. I can't think of anything good to say. I'm sorry.
Surprisingly bad episode. Much of it didn't even make sense...and not in a good way. hide show
This is a surprisingly bad episode. "Earl" is usually a quirky and original series, but this episode tried so hard to imitate itself, it just ended up being creepy. What makes this series special is the play between degrees of morality. This episode made every character distasteful by trying to hammer every joke over and over again. *Blech* It didn't even follow a real Cops format. Who was supposed to be taking pictures when the cameraman was pictured? This episode lost all that was original and appealing about the series. It was more like the worst of "Married with Children" than the series I used to love. Whoever wrote this one really needs to get another job.
