Sure that an older couple he's met are trying to play matchmaker, Fran is unsociable towards Steve at first until he points out that he only came along on the trip to appease his fellow campers.   • The immortal Irene Ryan (1902-73) would soon start playing the role that she is best remembered for, that of Granny Moses in the hit series "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-71). After almost ten years in the role, she headed back to Broadway with a Tony-nominated performance in "Pippin." In April 1973, Ryan suffered a stroke and died soon after at the age of 70. Her officially listed cause of death is a brain tumour. Although she is gone, the Irene Ryan Trust fund lives on, donating scholarships to promising young theater arts students. edit »
