Buried in Concrete, Daddy-Longlegs, Jet TaxiEpisode Number: 13 Season Num: 1 First Aired: Sunday February 15, 2004 Prod Code: n/a |
For the Jet Taxi myth, the Mythbusters were unable to get the taxi to flip under the jet engines; they didn't officially "bust" the myth because they weren't using a real jet, instead they were using seperate engines that are used in movies to generate wind. As for the myth, it turns out it really did happen.
(edit)
At first Adam tries to hide it, but eventually he was to face facts; he has Arachnophobia, a fear of spiders.
(edit)
Adam: (after witnessing the plane engines lifted debris instead of flipping the taxi) That was really cool and that was really suck.
(edit)
Adam: All right Buster, ready to fly?
(edit)
Adam: Buster's gotta get dressed and get in the cab so we can go. We're all waiting on Buster.
(edit)
Adam: I think Jamie and I should drive around and pick people up.
Jamie: Yeah, with nobody in the front seat!
(Both start laughing) (edit) Narrator: Who would have thought? Cheap car, dud battery.
Jamie: It seems like you have to take the car tire off in order to change the battery. What's the point? Probably because someone built the damn thing in a computer and doesn't have any sense. Piece of crap.
Narrator: While Jamie curses all things modern... (edit) Jamie: Adam doesn't know it yet, but he's digging his own grave.
Adam: What?
Jamie: Nothing. (edit)

In the UK, the name 'daddy-longlegs' refers to the crane fly, which is an insect, not an arachnid. It is also used to describe harvestmen (which are arachnids but not spiders) as well as the Pholcids used in the episode (which are indeed spiders).
So the myth wasn't busted for every type of daddy-longlegs! (edit)

The use of the phrase crikey! when testing the Daddy-Longlegs myth give reference to the tv show
The Crocodile Hunter.
