Have you seen the advertisements for it (Smash Lab)? To me, it looks like a derivative version of Mythbusters only with less narrative. I was ticked off when Discovery Channel went the route of all motor works a few years ago... I hope it doesn't become the all explosion network now!

It does look similar to Mythbusters, but there are plenty of non-explosion shows on Discovery, including the very popular shows Dirty Jobs, Survivorman and Man vs. Wild. There's also the recent Everest climbing expedition documentary.

i got that feeling as well...but that's the nature of producing tv shows...find something that works...then ride it till it dies...

Yup, look at NBC and CBS, they have two spinoffs. The two CSI for CBS and the two Law & Order for NBC.

Actually NBC also had Law & Order: Trial By Jury and another Law & Order show, making it five total Law & Order shows at one point!

Discovery Channel is guilty of this too. Man vs. Wild is similar to Survivorman (which I think is the better show). However, Discovery still has a lot of variety in its regular programming, from Mythbusters to Dirty Jobs, and specials like Blue Planet and Discovery Atlas. Don't forget Shark Week either.

I have yet to see it, but I get the feel both shows drive different points. Smash lab is explotions, but to find ways to make things safer (I might give it a chance when I see it on) and mythbusters is about challenging urban legends that defy science and they don't always get into exploding stuff (although that's my favorite part most of the time)

Just a side note about your signature -- I've seen some shows on Discovery about dolphins and their surprisingly violent behavior. They are known to bully single dolphin males for hours on end, repeatedly striking and forcing the loner onto the bottom of the ocean near the shore. Same thing with chimpanzees too, only they are even more violent. (Most chimpanzees you see in the movies are female chimps because males get far too aggressive and violent once they are mature.)

Anyway, about Smash Lab, it still seems too similar to Mythbusters. Adam and Jamie are always joking and commenting that the "Mythbuster way" is to finish off a test by creating a huge explosion. I know the point isn't to create safer technology but visually it seems similar to Smash Lab. I haven't seen Smash Lab other than the promo ads during the special preview week on Discovery a couple weeks ago.

Ive seen the first episode of smash lab and there wanabee mythbusters. the shows is boring it gets to the point of things without any comedy or anything mythbusters spices their shows up with funny bits and the making of certain things. and smash lab is not the first to challenge mythbusters the other show was patent benders that show was fairly boring too you dont see any hands on work. in mythbusters you see them fixing broken rigs and making things all the time.

It's Mythbusters if you take out the myths and add prettier people. I can't see any of these people doing the hands on stuff like Jamie and Adam do. Suffice it to say, Smash Lab annoys the hell out of me.

Yeah, it's pretty much mythbusters minus thefun hosts, quirky humor, hands on work, scientific content or interesting results. But other then that it's fine.

I've tried watching it a few times and I can't make it past the first 1/2 hour before my fingers start compulsively pressing remote buttons looking for something watchable. I think the problem isn't the people or the experiments... It's all post production issues. The editing sucks, show us the interesting stuff! The narration is bland at best. ANd finally... where's the music?

Oh! I understand you! lol it took me a while but I translated your message as:

"The car was flipped over in the collision."

"I SEE THAT."

Am I right with my translation skillz?? lol!

Anyway, Smash Lab is totally a wannabe. Its like a boring spin off of Mythbusters. MB is totally better (and by MB I don't mean Men in Black I mean Mythbusters stupid )

Yea, smash lab looks like a really dumbed down version of the mythbusters. instead of using science, they mess around and dont have a clue what they are doing. it just looks neat to idiots.

It looks just like it me and my sister are soooo mad! I mean all it is is mythbusters with more explosions! I don't think smash lab will get very far.

As a huge Mythbusters fan I want Discovery not to renew Smash Lab for a second season.

I've seen Smash Lab and I have to say it reminds me too much of Mythbusters as they have at least 2 teams working on seprate but similar things and then competing to see who's creation was better.

Maybe if Smash lab came out earlier before Mythbusters became so popular, no one would think it was just a 'rip off'. I like some of the things they did like using the train w/airbags at the front to push away a car on the tracks and the bus slamming into the concrete pavement. However, the people are not that interesting and I still can't see the 'scientist lady' on smash lab as a real scientist, but rather there cuz she looks ok and makes the male to female ratio 3:1, which is similar to Mythbusters 4:1.

End of Rant.

Smashbusters......is what I call it.

No thanks for me, Mythbusters is 1000% percent better.

The show concept is interesting...try to find ways to make things safer...but it is just...dull

I'm actually rather impressed with smash lab. It has gotten much better, with more humor and more science. The rocket episode was just insane.
