Shinji Ikari is summoned to NERV by his cold father, Gendô Ikari, who tells him he has a use for him. At the same time, a giant being known as an "Angel" also arrives in New Tokyo-3, which is met by the ineffectual offense of the U.N. Shinji must pilot the equally giant Evangelion Unit-01, but at what cost?
Read Full Recap » (warning: possible spoilers!)the first episode which is traditionally the most influental and the hook was extremely fast paced with shinju in the middle of the crossfire between nerv and the angel the episode proves no conventional means like bombs will hurt the angels only by the means of evangalions by gendo ikaris guess so shinji is forced to make a decision to pilot the evangalion or let a injured rei ayanami pilot the eva so shinji reluctantly agrees to pilot it but still it is obvious he has some qualms with his father because he is yelling at him through it and asking why did he leave him and whatnot
I wanted cartoons.. I got anime with cyborgs, humor, love, and suspense. What will happen next? I'll find out after reviewing this. hide show
Before watching the next episode, I am going to review this episode. I was received this box set of DVDs without much knowledge of this anime series other than it's a futuristic anime series that probably contain words that only Scientists or a few scientists would know. But, I gladly decided to accept this and watch the first episode. I'm gladly to say that this episode made me quite glad that I watched this.
This episode contained a lot of suspense, and that's what makes me want more. I hope that future episodes will have suspense because this episode was just very interesting and exciting. Here's a spoiler, Shinji, a person without any training to pilot anything, now has to pilot some robot against Angel. Right after he meets his father for the first time in three years I believe, he is commanded by him to pilot Evangelion Unit-01. What is going to happen next? I'll find out.
I recommend this episode for a great start of the series, of course. I thought this made a great first impression and was a great start for the popular series. This totally dragged me in to the series.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a show about 3 teenagers who must pilot bio-mechanecal mechs. Are they mech's? you'll find out later in the seris. Anyways, the episode start's off with a boy named Shinji Ikari who really doesent like him self, really.. And his dad requests him to come to the secreat operations base nerve, who carries these code named mechs evas, short for Evangelion. And that's all Ill tell you about the story.
The action is intense and very exciting like an adrenilen rush. Its also bloody gorey, what's there to say this episode is great has lot's of blood and destruction. Exactly what this seris is about. the only downfall is that, it really just sets you up for episode 2 wich is a flashback of all what happended the night before.
This episode is awesome. and every noobie to the seris should watch it.
Good first impression of the series! hide show
I found this episode to be a great start to this great anime. We start off by watching a city under water, picturing the state the world is in in the year 2015 AD. It gives you a good first impression. So does the Angel attack. Ad then there was a N2 Bomb. I really like those bombs.
Later, Shinji is taken to NERV to meet his father, who wants him to pilot the giant EVA Unit 01 to stop the Angel, who wasn't stopped by the attack by the nuclear-like N2 bomb. Well, I found his father way to harsh, and I grew a dislike for him at the first moment. I just didn't like him that much. But it didn't stop me from liking the series. At all.
And when Shinji didn't want to do it, and they brought in the injured Rei to pilot it... I felt sad. And then Eva saved Shinji, and then he decided to pilot the Eva because Rei was so injured. So, he piloted it up, and then the episode ended in a brilliant cliffhanger.
I liked this episode and how it gave a good first impression of the show. 8.8/10
Giant organic cyborgs, explosions, and hundreds of tons of blood... what more could you want? Maybe some intense graphic disembowelment of human characters but its not that kind of anime. hide show
The animation is seemless and breath taking the artistic view of scenes is well done, also the symbolism that takes place is very well thought out and exicuted. Unfortunetly the series blows it fight scene 'load' early on and doesn't get the great dramatic combat again until the fight scene with the 13th angel. The thing I like the most about this series is the fact that it rarelly breaks from the Manga story line. (with the exception of a extra episode and the fact that toji ends up living and some extra or left out tid bits)
